Re: Help with M3 for a StarTools Noob

This has been quite a thread. Handling globular clusters is making me crazy. I've been working on a set of Messier Object 2 since yesterday and don't seem to be getting anywhere.

Good start. Sounds like a bit of a challenge with your equipment, but making the best of it. Although yeah I did keep trying to scroll down to see the bottom of the galaxy.. If you can get some practice on available data and get used to Compose mode. It's weird at first, but that goes away pr...

Re: Andromeda

I thought the color shading on this is quite nice. Has a "warmth" to it being a little heavier on the yellow on the more central part of the structure.

What's really impressive is how well the dark bands stand out. The image almost gives a sense of motion when you look at it.

Re: Rho Ophiuchi with the Very Small Telescope

I look at images like this and think: "How is this even possible?" Especially the dark nebulae. I haven't taken on this object yet. I'm still working on the rest of the Messier catalog. Have about 40 to go. I just noticed something. The bright yellow large star in the sort-of lower right hand side o...

Very jealous! That's wonderfully done. Something is messing with my head a bit, where is the structure called The Pillars of Creation? Am I just not seeing it?

Messier 83 - Southern Pinwheel - Still learning but getting there

Okay, time to get brave. There's a laundry list of things wrong with this image, but this is the first time I managed something that is a little aesthetically pleasing. Since I've had nothing but cloudy nights for the last two months I've been investing my time in image processing, building a workfl...

I look at this and I think "He's been doing this a month, and it already looks more impressive than things I've seen by people who've been doing it for years".

Wow.

Re: stitching problems... (weird glare)

Even with some of the issues being reported, this Image Composite Editor program might be what I've been looking for. Yonder camera has a very small field of view. I can barely fit 1/4 of, say, M31 into one frame. Rather than using some ridiculously overpowered focal reducer, I could make a really i...

Re: Oversampling - Not quite "getting" why it is a problem

All the tips have been great. It is making a bit more sense now since I can take into account the resolution capabilities of the telescope vs the capabilities of the deep space camera. The astronomy tools site has been a godsend for learning things.

Re: M27 -The Dumbell Nebula

I'm really impressed with the crispness in the inner nebula detail you captured here. All those little swirls and knots. Not only is this aesthetically pleasing to the eye, it's detailed enough to be educational. Exceptional job!
