NGC2244 Rosette bi-colour

I used StarTools 1.4b to create this bi-colour image of the Rosette nebula, using the LRGB function with Red for H-alpha and Blue for OIII. There were only two 1200s subs available for the OIII but 10 for the Ha (the noise reduction in StarTools works wonders though :-) ). Scope: TV NP127is + 0.8x r...

Re: Comet Lovejoy/2014 close up.

Wow... That's nothing short of spectacular. There's amazing detail in that tail! How did you process this, if I may ask? Which tools did you find helpful? Thanks Ivo. It was a struggle I must admit, I'm not used to doing comets (my first!). To start with, each channel was processed seperate...

Comet Lovejoy/2014 close up.

Aquired last night Jan 16th 7:30pm, first chance at imaging for weeks! This is an LRGB 6 x 120s per channel, NP127is+0.8x reducer, Atik490EX.

M81 & M82

Continued awful weather here means no imaging for the last 6 weeks. I used StarTools V.2.4b to reprocess some data I collected on 9th November 2014 under a bright moon (I was ponting the scope away from the Moon!). Noticeably improved noise reduction allowed the M82 jets to be pulled out rather bett...

Re: LGRB request to Crop - systematic request?

The problem I have with this process is that when processing the component stacks of multi-channel images then they all need to be cropped to the same dimensions prior to registering and compositing, so generally I crop 20pixels off all sides regardless of whether that is optimal or not, or if artif...

ngc2264 Xmas Tree Nebula

Two versions here, first is the Ha channel (mono) which is 10 x 20min subs, and the second a bi-colour offering consisting of Ha+SII rendered as a pseudo-RGB palette. Both versions were processed in StarTools v.1.4 with some final tweaks in Photoshop. StarTools' noise reduction is as always excellen...
