Re: Messier 106 et al.

Hi AndyBooth , thank you very much for your detailed and comprehensive answer. First of all, let me say, that it was not my intention to start any kind of fundamental debate. I just would like to understand your workflow and your motivation. I too love StarTools, and/but I think it must be fine and ...

Re: Messier 106 et al.

Although I review the forums daily, I very rarely post due to the fact I use STools as only a part (but a very important one) of my overall processing routine, which also uses other software for initial stretching, and finishing work, with STools in the middle. I regularly use Bin,sharpening,HDR,SV...

Re: Messier 106 et al.

But that led to buying a screen calibrator, so all good in the end. Yeah, I just thought that as well. My wife will for sure roll her eyes, but image processing on uncalibrated screens is a bit of a game of chance. Yes a number of stars seem to have a mild CA or Pepsi effect, possibly could be help...

Thanks for your like, Ron! ;) So now you have two followers in total, Mike and me. If you want to get likes, just drop me a line. ;) I've often wondered if part of the game is to Follow a bunch of people in hopes a few of them Follow you back, increasing views and Likes. That's pretty exactly what I...

Messier 106 et al.

Hi all, It has been a long time since my last image post. But recently I managed to set up my rig and spend a few hours on M 106. :) m106_2-5.jpg Guiding was terrible, way more than 1 arcsec RMS. :confusion-shrug: But SV Decon revealed a lot of great detail in the core of M 106 :bow-yellow: SV...

Re: M67 in Cancer

Nice Freddy :) I also like open star clusters, especially as a visual observer. And I really think they are underestimated in AP. But it is quite difficult to capture what you can see as a visual observer. Dunno why :confusion-shrug: I recently had a similar idea and thought about capturing M 44. Bu...

Re: Sh2-308 Dolphin Nebula Processing

Hi Martin, at a first thought I would try to process like data from a dual narrow band filter and OSC. So, setting “Luminance, Color” to “Bi-Color from OSC/DSLR” and loading the Ha file into the red slot and OIII data into the green and blue slots. As you stressed “Ha accents” I wonder if you would ...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

I don't think I would say it's a step towards "art," though that all depends on definition and scope. The JWST team does state that things become more subjective. And that's okay! To me the art side is more manipulative, even misrepresentative, alterations, if serving only aesthetic purpose. Agreed...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Interesting article, Mike. Thanks for pointing out. The process description starts quite detailed, explaining how the images are aligned and stretched. And most of the other covered topics are described detailed, too. But I wonder if and what is missing. The process of “bringing out the details” (se...
