Re: HELP NEWBIE
Hi Stephen, I don't know what to tell you! The same issues persist; there is artificially introduced quantization present. E.g. the problem is that the gradient is not a gradient; they're distinct 'strata' of values. The colors are still pre-color balanced. It's almost as if you've stacked JPEGs (wh...

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack
Man... That's some impressive progress... :bow-yellow: You've grasped the mathematics involved very quickly. The big issue is performance when matching the stars as there are many, many combinations possible. The best idea I've come up with is to create a subset of the stars detected, based on two c...

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack
You're a machine!
Linux Mint 14 / x86_64Speaking of, what OS are you on? I can prebuild the python into a (rather large) binary, but it's platform-specific executables, obviously.

Re: Help with balancing colors
Wow, thank you Ivo! I love it and you have sold me! Any chance I could get you to post your workflow? Please note that the better the data, the more 'default' the settings become. Right now we're fighting noise and gradients. --- Auto Develop Default parameters, to see what we got. We can see overs...

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack
I definitely agree that star detection/triangle matching would be better than phase correlation for alignment. The reason I'm doing phase correlation right now is because it's incredibly easy to implement. Phase correlation is actually still very useful for planetary stuff (where there can be absol...

Re: Discussion idea - giving StarTools stdev data from stack
Ok, I had a play with your latest data. Feeding the (now linear) stdev to the Tracking algorithms shows promise. image_blink.gif The above image is deconvolved in both instances (same parameters). No further noise reduction was applied (which would make things look *really* nice!). WIth the stddev d...

Re: Help with balancing colors
Thanks! It's a little easier to process now (still a challenge though!). This is what I came up with; M101 Autosave.jpg The coloring is consistent with the presence of a light pollution filter (a dip in the registration of yellow). Normally, things to look out for are a good distribution of star tem...

Re: Help with balancing colors
Hi Ivo, Yes, I take the CR2 files and stack them directly. As far as I can tell none of the processing settings in DSS are enabled, and no processing was done in DSS. Just register, stack, then save as FITS. Could it be caused by my clip-in filter? All of my individual images come out of the camera...

Re: Help with balancing colors
Hello, I've been experimenting with the free demo version and love the simplicity of this program relative to other options I've tried. I'm able to bring out a ton more detail than I can in Photoshop, but after using Auto Dev I just can't quite get the colors balanced right with a dark, near black ...
