Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Thanks, Dietmar. I'll try to dig into all of that more later. Had to do an office day today, and then tonight was clear and somewhat decent seeing (MB all bright green indices though the base seeing is only 1.6" so, meh) so the rig is out catching some more Horsey before days and days of rain and cl...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

That would be akin to a "masked stretch", right? Or, does local mean that ST has analyzed the image and found regions (coordinates) where a lot of the overall dynamic range is concentrated and then it modifies that particular region of a global stretch curve. That would akin to setting the inflecti...

Re: Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

If you see that electric glow around objects, then it is just applied too much, Mike. You can see that if you apply the flux module also... Unsharp mask can do great things but it is always a balancing act. But i think that counts for just about every processing too. And someimes , it does not add ...

Astro to Astro-art Continuum, 2024 Edition

Porting this over to stop my derailing of Freddy's Tadpoles in the gallery forum, here (sorry, Freddy!): https://forum.startools.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2933 Thanks also to Dietmar for (of course) finding Ivo's table on this subject from a couple years ago, here: https://forum.startools.org/viewtop...

Re: OK, so a Tadpoles Startools version - SHO color palet -IC 410

Nice post Dietmar, good additional thoughts. I wonder how close in theory the (ST) implementation of contrast change is though, and how that compares to what is happening in sharpening routines. And thus, is it correct to use the term contrast in that regard. I've actually been thinking abou...

Re: StarTools 1.9 Beta

P.S.: @all and BTW: Ivo released a new beta version three days ago ... Ooh, thanks. I had recently checked the downloads page too. But that must have been four days ago. ;) **EDIT: It looks like it's present after the first OptiDev, just not as pronounced. HDR makes it more visible. Yes I think HDR...

Re: true colour in globular clusters

Glad you took a look also, Dietmar. In an attempt to get a passable but more saturated version, I tried hammering at it some more, but without any success that I am happy with. I thought that a Color Tame Dering in Shrink, along with a slight Layer blur on the same mask, would help. And i...

Re: Band Balance in NB Accent module

Hi Jeff, At the moment NBA only accepts one file. I don't know if there's any thoughts to augmenting that. Think if we could though -- three slots would allow independent including of S, H, and O onto RGB/LRGB, or even permit processing of 6-filter JWST files! :D We would need fully variable color m...

Re: Bayer drizzle

A dither every 15 seconds? Yikes. Whatever my subs are, I aim to dither every 5 minutes, so 12x per hour. That has seemed to work fine keeping walking noise and hot pixels (if not handled by the darks) away. Interesting take on dithering in the Ekos. I guess they've tested it so it must be o...

Re: Yes, another M42, it is this time of year....

Glad you got out and had some fun, Freddy, and nice result. Good job troubleshooting the debayering issue too. :D I'm generally not a huge fan of HOO for things like Orion or the Horsehead, but the moon is what it is. Processing has improved quite a bit I think too. In the past you might have "shatt...
