Re: Help with processing
Ok, I redid it with 50% and then tried to follow my log. The colour is a little different for some reason. It looks a bit pixelated to me, the stars don't seem as smooth? What do you think? (I really need a field flattener as well). http://www.astrobin.com/full/88309/0/ Definitely gets rid of the n...

Spot on!asterix2020 wrote:So should I "bin" the image first? What do you recommend?
Binning to '50%' should make sure that the interpolation is undone and that noise grain is confined to a single pixel again.
See here for more info if you're interested.

Re: Help with processing
Thanks!
One other thing, I would perhaps not process at native DSLR resolution with 75% of your red and blue channel data made up by the debayering algorithm, as the interpolation doesn't do the noise grain any favors (this is obviously not color related).

Re: Help with processing
Hi, I'm just started using Startools and I'd like some thoughts on this image: http://www.astrobin.com/full/88107/0/ I'm concerned it's too pink and saturated, it was looking ok but dull before using the colour module. Hi, I think this is an absolutely stunning result. Checking it on three differen...

Re: .279 Crashes on Selection of Colour Module
Ivo. Tracking was on. I ran the same process again. No crash this time. I noticed that this data set was quite hungry. I am not sure in the first instance that processing had terminted when leaving Life. Possibly something else chewing memory in the background. On this occassion, only Thunderbird a...

Re: .279 Crashes on Selection of Colour Module
Thanks for reporting this Rowland.
Hmmmm.... most peculiar - I haven't seen ST crash for months now!
Is this a replicable issue with that same data set?
Was Tracking on when you launched the Color module?

Re: File format
Hi! to all Question being a new to AP is DNG,TIF, and RAW the only format that StarTools well recognize? :?: Hi! Welcome to the hobby (or money pit as some like to call it :D ). StarTools recognises TIF and FITS files, fore the sole reason that these are the resulting image files that you get when ...

Re: Orion Widefield
This is an update using a different post processing workflow. It is a derivation of the DSLR-LLRGB method, but a little different. RGB channels were extracted from the integrated image and saved separately. The RGB image was converted to greyscale and saved as L. In StarTools, L, R, G, B were combi...
Re: M106
Some great detail in that. Love your choice of color rendition too - muted, but well balanced. Not unlike a super human (immune to dynamic range issues) would likely perceive them close up.
Nice!

Re: Possible bug in LRGB
Hi, Apologies for the delay. Thanks for sharing the data - it is very helpful! It simply appears the data is misaligned. The Layer module too shows the data misaligned by about +/- 17 pixels X and +/- 10 pixels Y. They Layer module will allow you to use the Offset filter to align one of the two data...
