Re: M 81 and M 82

Hi Stefan, here comes the response to your post from Tuesday … “A bit more challenging for the mount since with your longer focal length and smaller pixels you will notice small guide errors much more than me.” → That’s true in fact. And every time I see this combination of scope and mount I have on...

Re: M 81 and M 82

Hi Stefan, thanks again for your detailed answer! I will respond later in detail. With this post I only would like to share the image I acquired last March, as discussed. This is my best trial: Autosave3_01.jpg Stacked image _may_ be found here: https://c.web.de/@334960167135216273/qNjqpxc5SYmH_n091...

Re: M 81 and M 82

Hi Stefan, my setup is as follows: - GSO Newton 200/1000 - Baader MPCC - EOS 2000D (pixel size 3.7 um) - EQ5 Mount - ASI 120 MC Guidecam (PHD2) - 50/200 Guidescope Therefore, pixel scale is about 1 arcsec per pixel and in order to have a scale of 2 arcsec per pixel after binning (like you have), I w...

Re: M 81 and M 82

Hi Stefan, thank you very much for your detailed answer. At first, concerning your image: At the first sight I thought something went wrong with the wipe module, but then I compared it with other images (e.g. https://www.astrobin.com/gcyipq/H/) and it is definitely not light pollution. Not all of th...

Re: M 81 and M 82

A really impressive picture! Especially the background with IFN is a remarkable - you must have a very dark sky at your location. I took a closer look at your picture, because I also used the opportunity with the "uncommonly long stretch of clear sky here in Germany" to capture the same target. Furt...

Re: Colour Mottling / Background Noise (M31)

Hi, just for security reasons: 1.6sec sub exposure time seems to be quite short, even at ISO 1600 (you did not mention what lens?); did you check the histogram of a single sub? The sky background should be bright enough - some people say the peak of the histogram should be at about 25% from the left...

Re: pale/missing colours in dark areas

It may also simply be the case that your screen is not very well calibrated? Getting (or borrowing) a calibration tool like the fairly affordable Color Munki can do wonders. Thanks Ivo, yes, I guess such a tool makes sense when dealing with AP. I probaly will get one in a future - hopefully - not t...

Re: pale/missing colours in dark areas

Hi Ivo, I checked the settings in DSS - and of course - you are right. I failed to set "No White Balance Processing" in the RAW File Settings and therefore the dataset already was balanced. Shame over me. For sure, I read the "Recommended Deep Sky Stacker settings" several times - no idea what went ...

Re: pale/missing colours in dark areas

Hi Jochen, thanks for your reply! I already pushed Dark Saturation to "Full", but it effected only slightly brighter areas, not the dark areas shown in the cutouts. Concerning the other mentioned parameters: - I already tried the matrix correction, but my camera model EOS 2000D is not listed. I trie...

Re: pale/missing colours in dark areas

Hi Ivo, thanks a lot. At first I will double ckeck the settings for colour balancing in DSS. This would mean, that a lot of or at least some my other images have been wrongly stacked as well  . I will give a short feedback in any case. After that I will try the settings you described. My goal ...
