Ha Oiii RGB composition

Post by dariv »

I have some Rosetta Nebula data using 5 filters. RGB plus Ha and Oiii
I’m looking for suggestions on how to combine this data in Star tools.
Thanks,

Much depends on the exposure times with regards to luminance, but for the coloring, you could do something like R = (R+Ha), G=(G+OIII) and B=(B+OIII).
This would place Ha and O-III roughly in their respective parts of the spectrum. There are other, more laborious methods as well, but see how that turns out first?

Another popular thing to do is use the RGB for the stars only and otherwise just process a HOO composite. Again, all depends on your goals and exposure times.

Hope this helps!

What is the proper method to combine the Ha+R , for example?

You got no less than two ways of doing that;
  • You can use the Layer module to make a blend of the two datasets, then save the result for import in the Compose module
or
  • You can also use the Compose module, load one dataset as red, one as blue, then use 'L + Synthetic Luminance, Mono' for 'Luminance, Color'. You can now create blend using the exposure time sliders.
    On you're happy, Keep and save the result for re-import in the Compose module.
Let me know how you go!
