M51, imaged in Southern Arizona

I live in Southern Arizona, but my imaging is all done in Chile. Just for grins, I asked a friend of mine, Tony Flores, if I could borrow some of his data for a trial run in StarTools. He was using an AP140 telescope and a STXL16200 camera.

This was a hasty project, and I'm still trying to update my skills with StarTools, but I liked the result.

Hi Russ,

I can't seen any image (or link to one). I'd be very interested to see what you produced!

Hi Ivo,

Sorry for the mistake. I just attached the image to my original post.

That's a lovely image Russ!

To get rid of the slight chromatic aberration, you can use the Highlight Repair parameter in the Color module. Any further stubborn fringing can be fixed using the Filter module's Fringe Killer mode.

another trick I do if those ideas above do not work for you is before I colour the stars I mask out the stars I know will throw the CA which then leaves them plain but that can work for me.

Excellent advice from both of you. Exactly what I need to get better with StarTools.
