The Small Magellanic Cloud

Post by Russ.Carpenter »

I hope the StarTools community doesn't mind my steady uploading of images to the gallery. The pandemic creates a lot of opportunities to work on image processing!

I uploaded the SMC to Astrobin last November. I just finished a new version this morning, using PixInsight for Pre and StarTools for Post. You can see the before and after images here: https://www.astrobin.com/h6dcfb/B/

I'm blown away by the difference. Although I'm still learning StarTools, I've spent years learning PixInsight. Already, the ST results keep surprising me.

That reads like a great lens to use as well, 200mm at f2, can you use it wide open?
An interesting target it is like a stretched out globular with other elements within.
