The Lagoon et al

Post by Russ.Carpenter »

I decided to do some oldies but goodies for a while. This image and text were uploaded to Astrobin this morning. https://www.astrobin.com/m29y0g/

The Lagoon, Trifid, and Associated Nebula

This is familiar territory for most astrophotographers, but I liked this tightly composed field of view. In addition to M8 and M20, we have NGC 6526, to the right of the Lagoon, and IC 6559, above the Lagoon. I was especially pleased by the interior detail of the Lagoon, which revealed itself in spite of the relatively large field of view. You will need to zoom in to get the whole picture.

Hi Andy,

I agree--that's one heck of an object.
