Sharpcap capture

Post by Darkside »

Hi, when I use sharpcap pro which is the best option to save the images, tiff or fits, I'm not live stacking and I know that fits are best when working with startools but that can be changed in DSS. So my question is would I be OK to save as tiff's or is it better practice to save as fits. TIA Mark.

If your intention is to process the output in startools then I would personally choose fits.

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if I could just export them out of DSS as fits and have the original in tiff for ease of viewing.

I see what you mean.
You could try sharpcap as tifs, then process those tiffs in DSS with DSS set to autosave as FITS then you process that FITS in startools

I don't know what the best file format to use is for sharpcap to preserve data captured at acquisition time

Trial and error I suppose.
