For reference, I've done this with my L-extreme data. I think just adding the narrowband as Luminance and the rest as RGB works pretty well, with the benefit of not having to deal with masks.

Thank you for that interesting comparison. The one thing that puzzles me somewhat is the difference in star colours in the last two images - they should have been exactly the same as only luminance/detail should have been different?

You are right, I may have touched some saturation slider differently on the color module.
