This or that (another CPU dilemma)

Hi,
Just considering my options with regards a potential CPU upgrade.
I currently run a Ryzen 1600x and am looking to upgrade to either a 12 core 3900x or next gen, 8 core 5800x.
Seem to be stuck in a paralysis by analysis infinite loop, so can't decide either way. For argument's sake, they're both in the same ballpark, price-wise.
Which way should I go, or is there a better proposition for AM4 when it comes to AP?
