Hi,
Can anyone suggest a step-by-step workflow for processing an image of a well focused comet with sharp background stars?
Thanks,
Jeff
Comet processing workflow
Re: Comet processing workflow
Hi Jeff,
don't know, if you meanwhile found solutions for you, but today I tried a bit of comet processing and I remembered your post.
As the comet is moving fast in relation to the background stars, it is not really possible to get both, a focused comet and sharp stars. AFAIK usual approaches do separate processing of star background and of the comet and then both is combined (and the result will be some kind of art).
Deep Sky Stacker has a comet processing option/workflow:

I had no luck using the "Stars + Comet stacking" option, there are always remaining artefacts of the star movement. But maybe it's worth a try if your data is of better quality? For now I ended up with "focused comet and star trails"
Siril seems to offer a workflow for comet processing as well, but I haven't tried it yet:

Best regards, Dietmar.
