v 1.6 crashes in Windows XP SP3

Post by tomrgray »

Hi, I downloaded StarTools 1.6.396 stable, but it consistently crashes when I apply autodev - I've pasted the MS error log below. The obvious solution would be to upgrade my OS, but v1.5 runs flawlessly, and I use XP to operate software for my 30+ year old telescope and camera. I'd be grateful for any other suggestions, thanks. Tom

Hi Tom,

Bug confirmed. Please try the latest version and let me know how you go.
Note that many astrophotographers with legacy equipment and software tend to use something like VirtualBox to run Windows XP in a virtual machine on a modern (and secure!) OS of their choice.
While I fully intend to keep supporting 32-bit versions of StarTools for the foreseeable future, you may - depending on your machine - be missing out on some perks that modern 64-bit operating systems offer.

Clear skies!

Thanks Ivo, that's sorted it - I can now play with the new stereo 3D tools and all the other enhancements you have made.

It is great that you invest so much energy, innovation and time in this amazing product - that makes post processing so straightforward, yet powerful; I think I would have given up years ago with most other processing software.

Running this on an old Pentium M is certainly challenging, and I'm sure I need to upgrade - thanks for the tip about Virtual box. I tried the release on a Windows 10 dual core laptop, and it certainly flies.

Best
