Help with IC 4812 and surrounding goodies

Post by chrischarlesjax »

I've had some difficulty processing this image. Dark nebulae are tough to give a natural look. This image is from two hours or so worth of data with darks and stuff. Someone with a higher level of StarTools processing experience than I could have fun with this one. If anyone doesn't mind, give it a go and I would greatly appreciate it.

I only have the free version of drop box. If you like I can send you my email address through astrobin and get the file to you that way.

Maybe try google drive. I use free version of dropbox with no problems so dont know whats going on. Maybe file size limit? If you want to do this thru astrobin thats ok too. BTW my astrobin can be accessed by clicking on the icon next to the PM icon over there on the left <---

My astrobin is ChrisCharlesJax. Send me a PM with your email address there and I'll get a TIFF or FITS file to you through Google Drive.

Really nice but really tough image to process. I took a quick look at the image and its pretty noisy which I think is hurting your ability to bring out dark nebula. I assume that this was taken with a DSLR or because of the really nice color a OSC with a 8300 chip? Some of the noise looks like it might have come from using a stacking program that had too low of sigma and yet at the same time there are some hot pixel artifacts. What stacking software did you use and what method?
