deconvolution

Post by Rkonrad »

I've been using Startools 6 with an older computer. I'm not sure of the specifications but its close to first generation dual core with 3 gigs of RAM. I bin the image straight away so the computer can handle the size of the data - the go through multiple steps. Before I use the colour module, I deconvolute with an inverted mask using default settings. At this point the resources seem pretty stressed (like using swap) then a few minutes later it crashes. I've tried this twice.

Just thought I'd let you know. Normally I use a more powerful computer.

Have you tried increasing the dedicated harddisk space to be used as additional RAM?
My dual core PC has 6GB ram increased to 16GB through giving it dedicated RAM expansion space on the disk.
I haven't used deconcolution in 1.6x yet but had been using it before.

running W10 64bit

Thanks. Actually I'm using a linux system and it does that by default. There always an allocated "swap" partition on the hard drive which acts likes ram. Its super slow though as the hard disk is usually the slowest part of the system.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for letting me know. Is this the 32-bit or 64-bit version you are running on that machine?

Much appreciated Richard.
That is really odd. Linux is very robust and should be able to handle everything ok (if very slow).
Could you tell what CPU model is in this system?
I'll do some tests with a low-memory configuration.

This also happens when I try to bin an original resolution image. It always crashes shortly after the memory runs out and swap begins. Here are the specs of this computer

cheers

Re: deconvolution

Post by admin »

Thank you!

The thing that caught my eye was this;

Code: Select all

SwapTotal Virtual Memory 524284 KiB
SwapFree Free Virtual Memory 524284 KiB
It means your virtual memory pool only adds another 512MB which is really not much extra at all. See if increasing that helps.

Ah...I see. Thanks. I will try to find out how to increase my swap partition. It seems crashes are often and random - that would make sense.

Ivo this issue happens on 64bit program linux when RAM runs out. I have 12GB of RAM and a 20GB swap partition and it will crash without swap. But using drizzle images even these crash the system. I really think you need to implement memory control where the software is limited to 90% of RAM/swap.
